DISTANCE EDUCATION FOR MARATHON COACH CERTIFICATION

APRIL 12, 2011

NAASFP is excited to announce that we have just successfully completed the pilot of our new Marathon Coach Certification distance education program.  Demand has been high to offer NAASFP programming through a distance education format.  The challenge to make this transition is due largely to the fact that our programming is focused on evidence-based training.  We believe strongly that we must maintain this protocol in order to ensure the public that NAASFP certified professionals have demonstrated the ability to apply the knowledge safely.

The pilot came to a completion in early April with 25 new running coaches successfully challenging the program.  Based on feedback from the participants, the Advisory Committee, and the certification “clients” we know that these new running coaches have the necessary knowledge base to become leaders in the running industry.

The distance education program for the Marathon Coach Certification will feature three components that each candidate must successfully challenge; a Written Exam, a Case Study, and a Practical component in which the candidate must take a real person  through a minimum 18 week training program.  Successful challengers will be able to use the professional designation of Marathon Coach or Running Coach.  The program will come online in May 2011.  Stay tuned for registration details.

HOSTING

The core strength of NAASFP Master Trainers has always been that they maintain their own fitness businesses, which allows them to keep on top of trends within the industry and their region.  When a Master Trainer facilitates a certification course it is approached with a genuine knowledge and love of the industry.

Effective January 2011, NAASFP will be once again be offering certification only through Host organizations.  The demand for privately-hosted sessions keeps the Master Trainers busy throughout the year so NAASFP has decided to return to our original model of providing certification to private organizations only.

If you would like information on how to bring a certification to your region, please visit the Host web page or contact us at registration@naasfp.com.

Programs Move to Canada

June 15, 2010

NAASFP announces that it has moved its office to Mississauga, Ontario.  Based in Chicago, Illinois for the past 15 years, the move follows the purchase of the Academy by Danlyn Group Inc.

With the move comes a marketing campaign for the Canadian marketplace, which has been lacking educational opportunities for fitness professionals who want to specialize in Sport Conditioning.  Major centers across Canada will see program offerings grow as the team of Master Trainers in Canada expands.

Founder Retires

May 12, 2010

Rob MacDonald, Founder of the North American Academy for Sport Fitness Professionals (NAASFP) announced his retirement today.  After 30 years serving the fitness industry, Rob has decided to trade in his office chair for an Adirondack chair.  In conjunction with his retirement, Rob announced that he has sold NAASFP to Canadian-based Danlyn Group Inc.

The ownership transition to the Danlyn Group has been ongoing since early 2009 as the two organizations worked together to create the curriculum for the Academy’s new certification programs.

“I am very proud of all that we have accomplished at NAASFP and am even more proud to have found an organization as passionate about sport fitness to take the helm.  When I decided it was time to retire, ensuring that NAASFP continues to move forward became a paramount concern.  It is exciting to see the new avenues that we created together be received with such enthusiasm.”  Rob MacDonald will continue to work with Danlyn management in an advisory capacity.

New Certification Programs

The North American Academy for Sport Fitness Professionals  (NAASFP) is excited to announce their new line of cutting edge Sport Fitness certifications. Since 1995, NAASFP has built a reputation for training the best coaches in the sport fitness industry.  The Academy has alway focused on providing accreditation to post-graduates with health/fitness related degrees, but with the surge in demand for sport fitness coaches to the amateur athlete and weekend warriors seeking to enhance their performance, now is the time to bring their premier accreditation programs to the general public.

“We have lengthened the programs and enhanced the detail of the materials to allow for us to continue to provide our assurances that professionals carrying the NAASFP accreditation have received the best training available,” says Founder, Rob MacDonald.

The certification courses are intense and detailed, requiring the candidates to actively participate in the program material and demonstrate their ability to apply the material in a client scenario.

The NAASFP certifications available will be consistent with the current offering, with the exception of one new addition:
